Hello:
I have been following closely the list of the
different committee assignments. I expected to be in the Endowment Committee
which Inez and I have been pushing through starting with Class '55 hoping
that the different Classes will also follow and whatever pledges from the
different classes will be pooled in the same common pot (Endowment Fund).
The more the Endowment Fund grows, the interest
income can then be used for a specific purpose that is approved by the Board
of Trustees. The Principal is not going to be used up.
I am sure that the rest of the committee
members are fully aware that numerous schools and universities and churches
are being sustained due to Endowment Funds established by people several
years ago but kept growing due to the donors.
I am not wealthy but I have set some priorities
where I feel I can help while I have not retired yet. I should have
retired 2 years ago but there are things to accomplish and one major project
is our SMS. I still drive my 1989 Nissan Rusty Truck which indicates that
there are more pressing problems to spend on than buying a new car to replace
it.
Even just $100.00/year given regularly by
any alumnus(na) can add up especially if many will participate.
$100/year is only 28 cents a day. What I have done too is to stop giving
to so many solicitors for money and consolidated my charity giving to SMS,
Church and a dozen or more community agencies.
It is very feasible. It is a matter of
giving up some unnecessary needs and divert your money to our cause. It is
TAX Deductible too especially for higher income alumni.
I also have been reading a lot of other
needs apart from our school projects which is nice to know but we have so
many pressing problems to tackle and would be easier to concentrate on the
matters according to priorities.
My Church assignments just came
yesterday and noticed that I will be LEM/Chalice/Intercessor June 19 and that
is the same weekend that we are supposed to be in WV so I will notify the
Church Secretary and Rector in A.M. to change my schedule.
I will continue to monitor closely
what is going on but we plan to drive to Edwin and Mia's Palace in God's
Mountain. We have been to other parts of WV on the western part. Sorry for
saying too much! John('55)
